Inquiry Into Democratic Lawmakers By Trump Administration Over Military Video

Five Democrats from Congress have come under the spotlight of the Department of Justice after participating in a video. This footage advised military personnel to resist any orders deemed illegal, which the lawmakers see as political coercion.

The representatives involved are Chris Deluzio and Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, Maggie Goodlander from New Hampshire, and Jason Crow hailing from Vermont. Together, they disclosed that the DOJ reached out concerning the content of the video. Additionally, Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin has faced attempts by federal authorities, spearheaded by D.C.'s chief prosecutor Jeanine Pirro, to schedule an interview with her.

There have been discussions within the Pentagon regarding the potential downgrading of Senator Mark Kelly's naval rank and pension reduction due to his involvement in the video. This week, Kelly took legal measures against Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, to contest these potential actions.

The heightened scrutiny reflects the Trump administration's response to the November release of the video, which was a concise message lasting a minute and a half, advising soldiers to disobey unlawful commands. In the prior year, Trump had condemned these acts, calling them 'sedition,' carrying severe penalties.

In their defense, the involved lawmakers argue that the inquiries by the DOJ are driven by political motivations. Deluzio voiced that the administration is actively harassing political opposition and asserted his determination not to be cowed. Houlihan echoed these sentiments, claiming they face scrutiny because their message opposed the preferences of Trump and Hegseth.

Rep. Crow's Comparison to January 6 Rhetoric

In recent comments, Representative Crow likened Trump's accusations of treasonous acts to the rhetoric employed around the events of January 6.
