Global Outcry Leads to Grok Restricting AI-Generated Adult Images

Following intense worldwide criticism, Grok has been barred from producing AI-generated images depicting real people in scanty or sexualized attire.

"We've put in place technological solutions to stop the Grok account from modifying images of individuals to show them in garments like swimsuits," announced the safety division of X in a blog update on the platform on a recent Wednesday. "This limitation is universal, affecting even those with paid subscriptions."

Furthermore, X communicated that only paying customers will retain the ability to create and tweak images through Grok on the platform, thus reinforcing safety.

This move was revealed shortly after an announcement by California’s chief law officer regarding the commencement of a probe into AI deepfakes of a sexual nature, including those involving minors, produced via Grok. The controversy led Indonesia and Malaysia to halt Grok's services, while British legislators have openly deliberated on the issue.

Elon Musk, the proprietor of X and its AI arm, xAI, which developed Grok, invited users to test the AI's image modification boundaries shortly before X made a formal declaration about these new constraints.

This report remains developing, and updates are anticipated.
