According to findings from Cisco, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) might be key to achieving workplace promotions faster.

In a recent report, Cisco detailed that employees who frequently engage with AI technology are advancing in their careers more swiftly. These individuals, who are designated as consistent AI users, apply the technology noticeably more often—50% more—than their colleagues who don't receive recommendations for promotion.

Furthermore, the same group is 40% more likely to be tagged as very important to keep within the company. "This trend indicates that Cisco recognizes and rewards the cultivation of AI talents," the report clarifies.

The research, conducted by Cisco's People Intelligence division over the course of the year, examined data highlighting the adoption, application, user experience, and organizational influence of AI within Cisco.

Elevated Employee Engagement

Kelly Jones, Cisco's chief people officer, commented that AI users display greater enthusiasm for the company's goals, harbor more confidence regarding Cisco's direction, and feel increased empowerment in their job functions.

Broader Implications of AI for Promotions

Beyond Cisco, other major technology corporations are also contemplating the integration of AI usage into their criteria for career advancement. For instance, a leading executive at Amazon, Jamie Siminoff, who oversees the home security sector, declared that employees seeking promotions must articulate their AI utilization in performance evaluations. He stated that such promotions serve as substantial motivations for teams to adopt AI.

In a similar vein, in an internal communication, Meta outlined its intention to incorporate AI into its evaluation of employee performance. The company plans to assess how effectively staff implement AI tools to enhance efficiency and develop significant productivity enhancements, thereby tying career progression to their AI-driven contributions.
