Advocacy Groups Challenge Apple and Google to Remove X from App Stores

In a bold move, a coalition composed of 28 advocacy groups has openly criticized Apple and Google for allegedly benefiting financially from these unethical deepfakes.

The tech leaders Tim Cook of Apple and Sundar Pichai of Google have been called out for inaction in a public appeal from these groups, which include prominent organizations like UltraViolet and the National Organization for Women.

The Problem with Grok

A significant concern is Grok, an application linked to the generation of massive quantities of nonconsensual intimate images (NCII). This includes material classified as child sexual abuse material (CSAM), which is not only illegal but also breaches Apple's standards for app approvals.

A Call for Immediate Action

Combined efforts have led to calls for the immediate removal of Grok from app stores, pointing out its harmful potential as highlighted by these advocacy groups since its introduction.

Paying for Inaction

As a part of their critique, the groups highlighted X's policy of charging subscribers for content management as merely a way to monetize abusive practices while accusing both tech companies of monetizing illegal and harmful content.
