Wall Street's Latest Fashion Obsession: Chic and Costly Trousers
The latest must-have fashion statement for women in finance isn't what you'd typically expect—no dazzling jewelry, no swanky timepieces, nor eye-catching footwear. Instead, it's all about a simple pair of trousers.
I embarked on an on-the-ground exploration across Midtown Manhattan, engaging with retailers to discover which women's business fashion items are flying off the shelves. Repeatedly, the conversation circled back to one key item: pants.
These are not your run-of-the-mill trousers; they often feature luxurious, comfortable fabrics and command a premium, with prices stretching from about $60 up to $350. They typically have a looser fit as well.
"The trend clearly leans towards wide-cut and high-waist designs," noted Cassie Henry, a trader at Gresham Investment Management.
Aritzia
Retailing at $148, Aritzia has seen impressive financial performance, with a 119% rise in share price over the past year. One of their key offerings fueling this success is their TikTok-famed Effortless Pant.
Lululemon
Priced at $148, Lululemon might have sparked the high-end pants movement, evolving from their roots in athleisure. It's no wonder they introduced their Daydrift trousers in 2025. "Sometimes they're entirely out of stock," mentioned a sales representative. "These trousers are a favorite for many women when shopping here."
Abercrombie
With a cost of $63, Abercrombie used to be synonymous with denim for millennials. However, they've strategically pivoted towards more refined clothing options. "It's the go-to place for pants," remarked Nyla Legemah from the London Stock Exchange Group in New York.
Arc'teryx
At $350 a pair, Arc'teryx, primarily an outerwear specialist similar to but edgier than Patagonia, has ventured into the lucrative pants arena. "While most of our fan base has historically been for menswear, we're seeing a growing interest in our women's collection," a sales associate shared.
Club Monaco
Costing $248, Club Monaco positions itself with an aura of vintage affluence. A notable staff member attested to the popularity of their high-rise fluid crepe trousers, calling them a top-seller. "My circle really likes Club Monaco," added Henry.
