Elissa Slotkin Faces Scrutiny Over Video on Military Orders

Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin from Michigan is currently the subject of a federal probe tied to a video she shared, which encouraged military personnel to disregard unlawful commands, as confirmed by her office to NPR.

The investigations came to Slotkin's attention following a contact from the office of Jeanine Pirro, the D.C. U.S. Attorney, which was initially reported by an insider.

Pirro's spokesperson refrained from either confirming or denying the ongoing investigation.

The contentious video, made public on social platforms in November, featured individuals with military and intelligence credentials referencing the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

The lawmakers asserted, 'Orders that breach the law or our constitutional values need not be obeyed.'

President Trump accused the video of being seditious, echoing a social media sentiment that the six legislative members should face execution, though the administration later clarified he wasn't suggesting actual harm. Nonetheless, the involved individuals faced threats to their safety and bomb warnings.

"This mirrors the President's strategy," said a critic, highlighting how, in their view, supposed facts and truths are sidelined, with dissenters branded as foes and subjected to intimidation tactics.

Slotkin mentioned that around 1,000 credible threats were examined, with a bomb alert at her residence and her parents being victims of a swatting scheme, where hoax calls prompt an exaggerated police response.

She remarked, "Criticizing misuses of authority is the ultimate patriotic duty we hold right now."

Participants of the video received inquiries from the FBI back in November.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced potential disciplinary actions against Sen. Mark Kelly, a retired Navy pilot and fellow video participant, suggesting changes that might affect his rank or pension.

Kelly has since filed a lawsuit against Hegseth and the Department of Defense, asserting an infringement on his right to free speech.

This incident is part of a broader alleged effort by the Trump administration to challenge political adversaries, such as Californian Senator Adam Schiff and the Federal Reserve's Jerome Powell.
