Resurgence in Creator Economy Mergers & Acquisitions: Predictions for 2026
A notable upsurge in mergers and acquisitions within the creator economy signals robust health for the sector. This observation comes from James Creech, owner of Quartermast Advisors, which specializes in M&A consultation for companies operating within the creator space.
A Return to Vibrancy
Despite the highs of 2021, when the sector experienced substantial interest and financial influx, the creator economy faced challenging conditions over the next couple of years. However, signs of resurgence began to manifest in 2024, leading to a boom in 2025, described by Creech as a comeback period characterized by notable investments and high-profile mergers and acquisitions.
Quartermast's research indicated a remarkable 17.4% increase in M&A activities during 2025, with a noteworthy 81 transactions completed. Some standout deals included Bending Spoons' acquisition of Vimeo for $1.38 billion and the purchase of Captiv8 by Publicis Groupe.
Early Headliners of 2026
As 2026 commenced, the momentum appears set to sustain, with new deals already surfacing. Among them are the acquisition of Digital Voices by PMG and Global's purchase of the sports YouTube channel, The Overlap.
2026: Strategic M&A Players
To determine which firms will likely lead M&A activities in the creator economy, Quartermast's analysis reviewed historical data to highlight companies that have been prominent acquirers. Some previously active firms, such as Fullscreen, have reduced their activity; however, others remain prominent.
Spotify and Izea each top the list with several acquisitions, ranging from Anchor to Zuberance. Other notable companies include Wasserman and Patreon, as they continue to expand their portfolios.
2026 Buying Power Forecast
Creech predicts that agencies and holding companies, notably Publicis and Omnicom, will aggressively pursue strategic acquisitions. Omnicom, in particular, has recently merged with IPG, strengthening its market position.
Further expansion is expected from Humanz, an influencer marketing firm based in Israel, which recently secured $15 million to fuel acquisition pursuits.
The agency believes that talent agencies and management entities will merge more frequently, with marketing technology platforms closely following. These categories are anticipated to be highly active in terms of M&A operations.
Furthermore, private equity shows significant interest in this sector, viewing the creator economy as a burgeoning asset class. Silver Lake's involvement in TikTok's restructuring highlights this trend.
Future Prospects and Growth
Creech predicts that companies developing tools for creator businesses, like Patreon and Kajabi, may become acquisition targets. Interest may also extend beyond the creator economy, with traditional media or even food companies, such as Wonder, participating in significant deals.
"The evolving creator economy is stepping into a new era, marked by maturation and expansion," Creech concluded, suggesting a thriving future for the industry.
