Exiled Iranian Heir Reza Pahlavi Calls for Immediate US Action

Reza Pahlavi, the Iranian crown prince living in exile, urged President Trump to take swift action against Iran's regime. He emphasized the urgency of intervention to prevent further violence and to facilitate a swift regime collapse.

During a conversation with CBS News’ Norah O'Donnell, Pahlavi stated the immediate need for decisive action. He argued that timely intervention is crucial to limit loss of life in Iran and to dismantle the current regime efficiently. His claim comes amidst rising protests across the nation, spurred by economic grievances.

Pahlavi has been living abroad since his father, Iran’s last monarch, was dethroned during the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which established the current theocratic governance.

Communication with the U.S.

The crown prince revealed ongoing communication with the Trump administration, though he opted not to delve into specifics. He suggested that recent gestures from Iran towards potential dialogue were ploys to defuse growing internal dissent against Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

President Trump mentioned receiving a call from Iranian officials seeking negotiations, but he maintained potential military actions as an option, contingent upon the regime’s actions.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt indicated that military measures, including air strikes, remain considerable options.

Pahlavi asserted that the regime has already breached Trump's conditions, emphasizing that global recognition of the regime’s tactics—presenting false negotiation intentions—was pivotal.

Supporting Iranian Protesters

Pahlavi clarified that he did not directly advocate for regime change but signaled that American solidarity with the Iranian population is crucial in supporting their demand for a new government.

"The true desire of the people is to see the regime's end," Pahlavi remarked.

On Responsibility for Protesters’ Safety

With protests ongoing for weeks, surpassing 500 casualties and over 10,000 detained, Pahlavi was questioned about encouraging Iranians to risk their lives.

He noted that any struggle incurs sacrifices, and highlighted the importance of action to shield more from becoming casualties under the regime’s crackdown.

As people chant his name in demonstrations, Pahlavi sees himself as a potential transitional figure, asserting he only responds to the people's call. However, the extent of his actual influence inside Iran remains uncertain.

Despite his long absence from Iran, Pahlavi stated his readiness to sacrifice for his nation’s freedom, aligning himself with the courage of those protesting.

A Unique Moment for Change

Pahlavi highlighted the current protests, initially sparked by economic woes, as fundamentally different. Unlike past demonstrations, these aim for the total dissolution of the regime, representing a genuine revolutionary movement.

The presence of President Trump, distinct from his predecessors, is also viewed as a factor in these developments owing to Trump's decisive, straightforward rhetoric.
