Transformation of an RV Park into a Boutique Hotel
Robin Singh, alongside Sharan Samra, envisioned turning a dream into reality by purchasing and revitalizing a dilapidated RV park in Oregon. Their journey began in late 2024, culminating in the establishment of the Florentine Waterfront Hotel, where individuality flows through each uniquely themed cabin.
Navigating a Creative Path in 2024
Singh, an accomplished engineer residing in San Jose, realized that his passion lay beyond his professional role. His aspirations of owning a bed and breakfast pushed him to seek properties in the picturesque coastal stretches of Northern California and Oregon. Alongside Singh on this venture was Samra, his marketing expert partner, who shared his dream once she witnessed the potential of the selected site in Oregon.
Discovering Potential on the Oregon Shoreline
Amid his property search, Singh encountered the Fish Mill Lodges and RV Park, a place seemingly caught in time since the 1940s. The proximity to Siltcoos Lake and a short drive to the coast made Singh confident about its hidden charm, despite the evident need for substantial repairs.
Facing Challenges with Renovations
The initial inspection revealed extensive neglect, from decaying cabins to overgrown landscapes. Nevertheless, Singh and Samra braved these hurdles. Through creative financing, including assistance from a non-traditional lender and tapping into personal savings, they secured the property. The pair planned to juggle their full-time commitments while orchestrating the site's transformation.
Renovation Strategy and Execution
Grasping every opportunity to prepare for reimagining the site, Singh leveraged his sketches to bring his vision to life, even seeking overseas craftsmanship for custom furniture. The main thrust of their renovation focused on enhancing the cabins and centralized house while leaving RV areas as they were.
Reinvigorating the Cabins
Initially unappealing, each cabin was methodically redesigned. The duo introduced soaring windows to invite the breathtaking lakeside views inside, transforming spatial experiences with tasteful touches, all while maintaining a cost-effective approach to materials and design.
Crafting a Harmonious Living Space
Floors were reworked, and the interior configuration tweaked to enhance the living experience, with thoughtful separation of bathroom amenities allowing for functional elegance. Countertops were crafted from epoxy to simulate a luxurious appearance without the hefty price tag.
Exterior Enhancements
Bringing order to the exterior entailed clearing overgrowth and reclaiming space, which uncovered unexpected finds like hidden boats. These outdoor efforts reshaped the property's ambiance, restoring safety and visual appeal to formerly neglected areas.
Community and Collaboration
Driven by passion and community support, their ambition united friends and local residents, sharing resources and expertise. Contractor partnerships became key, relying on goodwill and collaboration towards completing this labor of love.
Establishing a New Business Horizon
June 2025 marked the Florentine Hotel’s operational launch. The opening strategy allowed for a gradual introduction, refining services with insights from each stage before reaching full guest capacity. The summer exceeded their expectations, delighting patrons who sailed through for unique hospitality experiences.
Future Aspirations
Though financial profit wasn’t their primary target, Singh and Samra's satisfaction stems from fulfilling their shared vision. Their ongoing efforts focus on fostering an inviting environment that supports both local prosperity and sustained tourist attraction, underscoring their commitment to community-enhancement efforts.
Personal and Professional Growth
Reflecting on their shared business venture, the couple found personal and relational growth intertwined with every achievement. By combining talents and focusing on shared strengths, they forged a path where personal passions and career-driven zeal intersect, harmonizing their lives and ambitions into a shared success narrative.
