Suspected Stowaway's Attempted Escape to Canada Thwarted

A woman previously charged with illegally boarding an international Delta flight has been detained after a failed attempt to leave the United States again, sources within law enforcement said.

After her initial arrest earlier this month, she was conditionally released with an ankle monitor, as per judicial documents referenced by Business Insider.

Reports indicate she disabled her tracking device on Sunday and left her residence, prompting law authorities to issue an arrest warrant.

CNN reported that her disappearance was brought to the attention of the police when her roommate discovered the monitoring device at their home. Subsequently, she was apprehended on a Greyhound bus traveling toward the Canadian border on Monday.

Unlike her previous actions, an insider told The New York Times that she had legitimately purchased a ticket for this bus ride.

She made a court appearance in Buffalo on Tuesday, with another hearing slated for Friday in Brooklyn to address alleged violations tied to her earlier court-ordered freedom.

Background of the Delta Incident

Earlier this month, Svetlana Dali, aged 57, became infamous for allegedly sneaking onto a Delta Air Lines flight bound for Paris without proper documentation.

The detailed complaint notes she admitted during interrogation to boarding the aircraft without any valid travel pass or identification.

Initially barred at the John F. Kennedy International Airport due to lack of a boarding pass, within minutes she maneuvered through a crew-only lane by mingling with airline staff, the document mentions.

Subsequently, she joined Flight DL264, only for Delta personnel to identify her prior to the plane's touchdown in France, where she was found without any travel credentials.

This event took place on November 26, coinciding with a record-breaking day at TSA checkpoints, as 2.7 million travelers were processed, a notable statistic for the busiest Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

In a prior communication with Business Insider, Delta expressed gratitude towards the support from French and American officials. They confirmed that a review of their security protocols upheld the measures as robust, attributing the breach to a lapse in standard operating procedures.

"We are actively remedying this situation and are committed to ongoing cooperation with governing bodies, security agencies, and pertinent stakeholders," the statement emphasized. "The safety and security of our operations remain paramount."
