Discovery of a Body During Pennsylvania Sinkhole Search
Authorities searching for a missing woman near a Pennsylvania sinkhole have announced a significant discovery.
In Westmoreland County, the deputy coroner, Sean Hribal, confirmed that the rescue team believes they have located the body of Elizabeth Pollard, age 64. Pollard vanished four days prior in an area affected by a sinkhole over an abandoned coal mine.
Community's Relief and Efforts
Trooper Steve Limani from the state police expressed relief at the development, stating the search effort had been exhaustive and challenged by dwindling time and resources.
Pollard's son, Axel Hayes, mentioned in a phone interview that he was awaiting details from the authorities. He plans to inform his father, Kenny Pollard, who reminisced about a memorable vacation with Elizabeth in Florida a decade ago.
Disappearance and Initial Search
Elizabeth Pollard was reportedly last seen on Monday evening, searching for her lost cat near a local eatery, not far from her residence. The family notified the police early Tuesday morning when overnight temperatures fell sharply.
Attention was concentrated on a sinkhole noted for its size, thought to have recently appeared in the village of Marguerite, known for its historical coal mining sites.
Search Effort Details
Pollard's vehicle was discovered parked within 20 feet of the sinkhole, with her five-year-old granddaughter unharmed inside.
Despite attempts by locals and nearby workers to notice anything unusual, the sinkhole remained unnoticed until Pollard's disappearance.
The search employed advanced equipment including a pole camera fitted with a sensitive microphone, but it yielded no results. Rescue workers consequently removed considerable amounts of earth to access the estimated location of her fall.
Background of Elizabeth Pollard
Elizabeth was originally from Jeanette, approximately 12 miles from Unity Township, where she lived most of her life. She had a career at Walmart and enjoyed a long marriage spanning over four decades.
