Trump Appoints Thomas Homan as 'Border Czar' with Expansive Responsibilities

Thomas Homan, who previously held a senior immigration official position in the prior Trump administration, announced that workplace inspections for undocumented workers would be revived under the incoming administration.

In a Sunday evening announcement, former President Donald J. Trump revealed that he has selected Thomas D. Homan to oversee America's borders, including maritime and aviation security, under the title 'Border Czar.'

The announcement was made via a post on Truth Social, though it omitted further specifics regarding Homan’s new duties.

Trump expressed confidence in Homan’s capabilities, citing their long-standing acquaintance and praising Homan’s expertise in border security and management. He emphasized that Homan would be tasked with managing deportations of undocumented immigrants to their home countries.

A significant part of Trump's campaign focused on stringent immigration control, yet the detailed implications for U.S. immigrants remain uncertain.

Potential Policies and Workplace Raids

A pivotal issue is whether this administration will authorize workplace raids targeting unauthorized employees, practices that were put on hold during the Biden administration. Homan confirmed that these operations would recommence after Trump's inauguration on January 20.

In 2017, Homan was appointed to a similar role, backed by decades of experience in the field of immigration enforcement. His career includes roles as a police officer, a Border Patrol agent, and a special agent with the former Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Insights into Trump's Cabinet Selections

This declaration adds to the growing list of individuals Trump is considering for influential positions within his cabinet and advisory team. Recently, Susie Wiles, who has managed his political campaign operations, was named as Chief of Staff.

The weekend also brought speculation about Nikki Haley, erstwhile U.N. ambassador, and Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of State, potentially joining the Trump administration.
