In Jerusalem, Prime Minister Netanyahu decided to oust one of his least compliant cabinet members. Analysts suggest this will simplify setting Israel's wartime direction, but it may expose him to new dangers.

Gallant disrupted Netanyahu's plans by insisting on a truce with Hamas, arguing it was essential to liberate numerous Israeli hostages in Gaza. Domestically, Gallant advocated for military exemptions for ultra-Orthodox Jews, a controversial move that could threaten the stability of Netanyahu's government by dismaying its ultra-Orthodox collaborators.

Internal Coalition Conflict

"Gallant represented an internal opposition within Netanyahu's coalition," explained Nadav Shtrauchler, a former strategist and political analyst. "With Gallant gone, Netanyahu can pursue his agenda with greater ease, both politically and militarily."

Netanyahu hastily refuted any intentions to dismiss other high-ranking security officials following Gallant's departure. Nevertheless, commentators believed that appointing Israel Katz, seen as more controllable, might pave the way for ousting the military's chief of staff, Herzi Halevi.

Balancing Personal and National Interests

Critics accused Netanyahu of prioritizing personal political interests to satisfy his coalition's far-right faction, insinuating he will persist with either unpopular policies such as the ultra-Orthodox exemption or contentious stances like resisting a truce with Hamas.
