Purchasing Amazon's Colorsoft Kindle, many expect an exquisite full-color reading experience that's worth the $300 price tag. Yet, several owners are encountering a subtle but frustrating yellow band at the screen's bottom edge, visible right from the get-go, which has triggered discussions on social platforms.
Amazon rolled out this exciting full-color version recently, specifically targeting comic and graphic novel enthusiasts, along with users ready to transition from older Kindle models to enjoy richer book visuals in full color.
Speculation suggests that the yellow hue may be a software glitch. Some believe it surfaced after a software patch and anticipate a future update could resolve it. Our initial assessments suggest that while some readers detect no anomaly during use, the issue seems more apparent in screenshots.

A Reddit user voiced frustration regarding the device, detailing how a uniformly well-lit appearance was disrupted by the yellow mark. The individual reached out to Amazon, which offered a warranty replacement. Despite this, the user weighs the option of returning the device for good, preferring to revert to an older Kindle model if improvements aren't evident.
While the yellow discoloration may seem minor, it distracts some users considerably, particularly given the model's $280 price point. Once noticed, it's difficult to ignore.

ZDNET reached out to Amazon, and a representative acknowledged only a limited number of reports about the discoloration. They emphasized their commitment to product quality and suggested affected customers contact support for exchanges or refunds, hinting the issue might stem from hardware, not just software.
Amazon stated, "We value product excellence seriously—customers should contact support for a replacement or refund. We're implementing necessary steps to ensure future devices won't face this problem."
Previously, securing a device replacement wasn't straightforward for all, but recent Amazon directions have prompted smoother resolution processes.
A recent Google discussion highlighted a user's immediate notice of the issue and the yellow streak extending when opening books. The user opted for a refund after finding no offer to exchange the device.
In addition to discoloration, some Kindle Colorsoft users report a crosshatch pattern, possibly linked to the E Ink Kaleido 3's color e-paper technology. This technology employs a color filter on monochrome e-paper, showcasing around 4,000 colors at a resolution of 150 ppi, while monochrome content appears at 300 ppi.
