Coco Gauff Triumphs at WTA Finals with Dramatic Win Over Zheng Qinwen
The American tennis star Coco Gauff, at just 20 years old, clinched her first WTA Finals victory by rallying in an epic battle against Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen.
Gauff overcame substantial deficits, trailing 2-0 and later 5-3 in the decisive set. At one point, she faced the brink of defeat, being two points away from losing.
Demonstrating remarkable resilience, Gauff pushed the set into a tiebreak, where she dominated from the outset by seizing the first six points. Although Zheng attempted a late surge, Gauff secured the win with a commanding forehand on her third match point.
Throughout the tournament held in Riyadh, Gauff's impressive journey included notable victories over the top-ranked players in the world.
For Zheng, the match was a step in a remarkable season that witnessed her reaching her first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open and securing China’s inaugural Olympic gold in tennis singles.
