According to the Federal Aviation Authority, a Beechcraft Bonanza carrying five individuals crashed on Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania.

The aircraft went down near a retirement community situated to the south of Lancaster Airport, as reported by Manheim Borough's police to ABC News.

As the FAA detailed, the accident unfolded around 3 p.m. They have initiated an investigation, with the National Transportation Safety Board closely observing the developments.

In recorded conversations with Air Traffic Control, the pilot communicated to the control tower at Lancaster Airport about an 'open door' issue, expressing the need to return for landing.

Permission was given for the return, but shortly after, the controller advised the pilot to 'ascend,' according to the audio recordings.

Photographs captured by onlookers and shared with ABC News depicted flames and smoke pluming from the crash location in Lititz, within Manheim Township.

Government Response and Ongoing Investigation

Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, tweeted that the state's police force is collaborating on-site with local emergency teams, providing all necessary state resources for the response and promising updates as the situation evolves.

The NTSB stated they will release more information once it becomes available.
