Lawmakers Demand FTC Scrutiny of Trump Mobile

Senator Elizabeth Warren, alongside other Democratic legislators, has petitioned the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to probe potential 'misleading marketing' by Trump Mobile.

The group's communication points to suspicions of 'deceptive practices' by Trump Mobile, with emphasis on their T1 Phone, a product that was revealed over half a year ago yet remains undelivered to any purchaser.

Concern Over Undelivered Technology

The appeal is backed by 11 Democrats, spearheaded by Senator Warren and Representative Robert Garcia. The discussion highlights the cleansing of Trump Mobile's ‘Made in America’ declarations and their practice of collecting $100 deposits without fulfilling product deliveries.

Moreover, they criticize a social media advertisement, which was discovered to be an altered version as noted by The Verge.

Equal Application of Consumer Laws

The letter inquires whether the FTC has initiated any review into Trump Mobile's purported infractions. If an inquiry is not underway, it urges the commission to prioritize Trump Mobile’s scrutiny in line with the benchmark set for other firms.

The lawmakers emphasize that the FTC’s actions in response to any breach of consumer legislation by Trump Mobile will be a vital measure of the agency’s autonomy and dedication to its purpose, which is to shield the public from dishonest or unjust commercial conduct.

Prior Correspondence Ignored

Warren, along with other legislators, had previously reached out to the leaders of the FTC and additional agencies, questioning how they would circumvent any 'improper political influences' regarding Trump Mobile's regulation. They underscored in the current letter that no acknowledgment was received from the FTC concerning these concerns.
