Release Date for Heist Game Relooted Unveiled

Embark on a Quest to Reclaim African Artifacts Starting February 10

Relooted, a captivating Africanfuturist heist game, is set for release on February 10th. This innovative title is the creation of Nyamakop, an independent studio based in South Africa. The narrative follows an eclectic group from Johannesburg as they endeavor to recover African artifacts from a series of imaginative Western museums.

This game is crafted as a 2.5D side-scrolling action platformer, enriched with elements of stealth and puzzles. You must strategize meticulously with your team, deciding the best way to position each member for the optimal infiltration and escape. The moment you secure the target artifact in any given mission, an alarm activates, leaving you with a narrow window to make your escape. Consequently, thorough planning is a critical component of gameplay.

Nyamakop's Journey and Previous Achievements

The studio's previous venture, a platformer named Semblance, holds the distinction of being the first intellectual property developed in South Africa to be released on a Nintendo console, specifically the Switch, in 2018. During that year’s E3 event, Nyamakop's programmers Cukia Kimani and Ben Myres discussed with Engadget the challenges of capturing the attention of major platform decision-makers, posing significant obstacles for an indie developer rooted in sub-Saharan Africa. In the absence of significant industry events or representatives within the country, the developers needed to travel extensively to gain visibility for their creation.

While there is currently no announced plan for a release on Switch or its successor, Switch 2, for Relooted, the game is anticipated to be playable on PC and Xbox consoles in the upcoming month.
