OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Translate to Rival Google Translate
OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Translate, a web-based translation application that can handle over 50 languages, directly challenging Google Translate's dominance. Both platforms share a similar user interface, featuring a pair of text boxes for inputting and receiving translations, alongside options to select which languages are being used.
Differences in Features
Unlike Google Translate, which offers the ability to translate images, documents, and websites, ChatGPT Translate's main page currently indicates support for text and voice input, although image translation is not yet functional. The desktop version processes only textual input, whereas the mobile version can handle text input or audio through a microphone.
Customization and Style Options
A notable feature of ChatGPT Translate is its ability to customize the translation style. Users can select presets like 'more fluent' or 'academic,' and even request translations to be crafted in a business-formal manner.
Absence of Mobile Application
Currently, there is no mobile application available for ChatGPT Translate on either Apple's App Store or Google's Play Store. This contrasts with Google Translate, which is widely accessible as both a web app and a mobile app.
Under the Hood
While ChatGPT has been equipped with translation functionalities for quite some time, its capabilities have now been packaged as a standalone service. However, OpenAI has yet to disclose specifics about the AI model that drives ChatGPT Translate.
