ICE Officers Shoot Venezuelan Man in Minneapolis

Protestors are rallying against federal immigration officers in Minneapolis after an ICE agent shot a Venezuelan man during an incident on January 15, 2026.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the situation escalated when the officers were ambushed while attempting an arrest in North Minneapolis.

The altercation involved a 37-year-old Venezuelan, who attempted to flee by car but crashed and then was pursued on foot.

Authorities report that the individual vigorously resisted and physically assaulted the officer. Two people reportedly emerged from a nearby residence attacking the officer with makeshift weapons such as a snow shovel.

In response, the ICE officer fired at the Venezuelan man, injuring him in the leg. He received medical treatment for what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident coincided with a public address by Governor Tim Walz, who criticized the federal government's increased presence of immigration officers in Minnesota.

He urged people to document ICE activities as tensions continue to rise in the city post the fatal incident involving Renee Macklin Good.

Protestors assembled at the scene of the shooting, expressing their anger and opposition to ICE operations. Federal agents responded with crowd control methods including dispersal devices.

Karen, a local nurse, joined the protest out of concern for community safety, standing ready to assist if violence erupted.

Another protestor, Cameron, mentioned that the fear of ICE presence has led to the closure of local businesses, fracturing the community fabric.

He criticized the transformation of their neighborhood into a seemingly hostile environment, expressing that federal actions appear intended to instill fear.
