McDonald's Chief Executive Officer foresees pivotal food trends sparking change in 2026.
On Monday, Chris Kempczinski, the prominent leader of the fast-food giant, shared on Instagram his insights on what culinary desires will captivate diners this year.
Before unveiling his insights, he indulged in a moment of triumph as his 2025 forecasts were realized. The previous year's major predictions—protein emphasis, artificial intelligence integration, and a focus on sauces—all came to fruition.
Here is what he's predicting for 2026.
Embracing Fiber
Leading his 2026 predictions is a focus on fiber, anticipated to rise in significance.

Dietary trends like 'fibermaxxing' have been frequently spotlighted recently, with experts underscoring fiber's role in aiding digestive health, reducing cholesterol, and lowering colon cancer risks.
Before Kempczinski, PepsiCo’s CEO Ramon Laguarta had already forecasted fiber could replace protein in prominence.
The Sweet and Spicy Fusion
Another remarkable trend is the blending of sweet with spicy flavors.
Fast-food establishments have swiftly adopted this trend. By 2025, popular eateries like Chipotle, KFC, and Taco Bell introduced spicy honey sauce options.
This trend extends from last year’s predictions focusing on sauce over main courses. Spices, Kempczinski believed, remain perpetually popular alongside notes of honey or sweetness.
McDonald's offers a tangy-sweet twist with its Creamy Chili McCrispy Strip Dip, fitting the trend.
Beverage Innovations Ahead
Lastly, Kempczinski highlighted that a surge in unique drink creations is imminent.
Throughout the past year, quick-service restaurants have introduced new drink options, with Taco Bell and Chick-fil-A pioneering beverage-focused branches—Live Más Café and Daybright—that offer coffee and fruity beverages.
Kempczinski's vision for beverage creativity aligns with Generation Z's reduced alcohol consumption, favoring novel, exciting drink choices.
