Timothy Busfield, an actor recognized for his work on television and in film, appeared in court recently to confront accusations related to the inappropriate touch of a minor during a TV series production in New Mexico.

The Albuquerque law enforcement has leveled charges against him for two instances of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child endangerment. These allegations are said to have occurred on the set of 'The Cleaning Lady,' a show filmed in Albuquerque.

Busfield, represented by lawyer Larry Stein, firmly denies these accusations, asserting their complete inaccuracy. To underscore his claim, he underwent and passed an independent polygraph test.

The 68-year-old performer, linked with actor Melissa Gilbert and known for his roles in 'The West Wing,' 'Field of Dreams,' and 'Thirtysomething,' has pledged to contest the charges. In a video released prior to his surrender, Busfield dismissed the charges as fabrications.

Prosecutors are pushing for Busfield's continued detention as he awaits trial, citing a long history of alleged sexual misconduct. They highlighted a consistent pattern of inappropriate behavior, misuse of authority, and grooming spanning over twenty years, which they detailed in a motion filed early Wednesday. The motion also emphasized that some witnesses expressed concerns about potential retaliation and career repercussions.

Reportedly, another accusation surfaced the same day Busfield turned himself in, relayed by Albuquerque's Deputy District Attorney Savannah Brandenburg-Koch. A father accused Busfield of kissing and inappropriately touching his then-16-year-old daughter during an audition process at an organization Busfield co-founded. Years later, the father claimed Busfield promised to seek therapy if they refrained from reporting him to the authorities.

In response, B Street Theatre, founded by Busfield, stated that he hasn't actively participated in its operations since 2001, and refrained from commenting further due to the ongoing inquiry.

A document submitted in court expressed that individuals holding influential positions can sometimes avoid accountability, exploiting their status to bypass protective measures for minors. The document suggested that given Busfield's history of neglecting boundaries and authority, no condition of release could ensure the safety of victims and the community.

The decision now lies with a judge to grant or deny this request, and a detention hearing is yet to be calendared.

According to the filed complaint, a police investigator recorded that a child alleged Busfield improperly touched him multiple times while he was as young as seven, repeating a year later. The child reportedly feared disclosing the incidents, thinking Busfield might retaliate due to his directorial role.

The child's twin also reported inappropriate touching but didn't specify where, choosing silence to avert potential trouble.

These claims were brought to the attention of Child Protective Services, with the incidents alleged to have happened over recent years.

Post a visit to the University of New Mexico Hospital, wherein the boys' parents consulted based on legal advice, local police initiated an investigation last fall.

Busfield rejected all assertions during a talk with law enforcement, suggesting the accusations were borne out of a vendetta due to the replacement of the children on the series—a sentiment echoed by his legal counsel.
