Unlock Gemini's Potential Across Your Google Apps
New AI Capabilities Span Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube
Starting today, Google introduces an AI feature named Gemini designed to enhance personalization for each user. Once activated, this 'Personal Intelligence' draws context from your entire Google network, such as Gmail, Google Photos, Search, and YouTube History, to provide tailored insights that refine its recommendations. Initially, this feature is exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra users in the United States, and users need to manually opt in to activate it.
Google ensures that users can manage which Google applications Gemini accesses. In the future, users will also have the choice of selecting the specific conversations where Personal Intelligence is applied. Although this feature aims at improvement, it may occasionally err in its judgments, including making connections between unrelated elements.
Notably, Google clarifies that Gemini does not directly utilize personal data such as images or emails for AI training. Instead, it focuses on refining its responses through user prompts. Users can request re-analysis without personal data inclusion and can erase their chat records whenever desired.
The Personal Intelligence feature is currently supported on the Gemini app available for web, Android, and iOS devices, targeting personal Google account holders. Shortly, this capability will extend to the AI Mode on Google Search, with broader availability in additional countries and the upcoming free service tier.
Google is rapidly embedding Gemini across its ecosystem, spanning services like Gmail and devices such as TVs and mobile Chrome. Recently, Apple revealed a collaboration where Siri AI will be empowered by Gemini, marking another significant integration. Despite its advancements, AI remains imperfect, as demonstrated by earlier failures like misrepresentations and inaccurate image generation of historical figures.
