Insta360's Enhanced Face-Tracking Webcams Now Feature Larger Sensors and Higher Prices
Insta360 has unveiled the Pro models of their Link 2 and Link 2C webcams, building on the technology introduced in September 2024. These upgraded versions, named Link 2 Pro and 2C Pro, maintain their capability to follow the motions of individuals in the frame. This functionality is particularly beneficial for individuals who are presenting via video or who need to move around during their sessions but are unable to afford a professional camera operator.
The latest models now incorporate larger 1/1.3-inch sensors combined with 24mm equivalent f1.9 lenses, which greatly enhance their performance in low-light or challenging lighting environments.
Global Availability and Pricing
Both of these webcams are now accessible to customers worldwide through Insta360's online retail platform. However, these Pro versions come with an increased price tag compared to their predecessors. The Link 2 Pro is priced at $249.99 and offers a dual-axis mechanical gimbal for better subject tracking. In contrast, the Link 2C Pro, at $199.99, utilizes software advancements to keep the subject within the viewing frame.
Performance Enhancements
Traditionally using half-inch sensors, these new iterations promise significant improvements in capturing video under dim lighting due to the enlarged 1/1.3-inch sensors. This upgrade is expected to yield brighter and clearer video outputs across varying lighting scenarios. However, the video resolution capabilities remain at 4K/30fps, or 1080p/60fps for both models.
Advanced Audio System
Insta360 has integrated what they describe as their most sophisticated webcam audio configuration yet. This includes a pair of microphones (one directional, one omnidirectional) combined with AI-based noise reduction technology. Users can select from four audio pickup modes: a standard mode with active noise cancellation, a natural sound mode without processing, a mode optimized for speaker groups, and another tailored for isolating a single voice in louder settings.
Retained and New Features
Continuing with previously available features, these webcams allow users to initiate tracking and adjust their framing via hand gestures. Other functionalities include background blurring, a virtual green screen, and a dedicated mode to maintain focus on text-filled whiteboards. Additionally, Insta360 is adding support for the Elgato Stream Deck, which will enable users to regulate camera settings like exposure and white balance through simple button presses and activate AI-driven features or operate multiple webcams simultaneously. This Stream Deck functionality will also extend to the standard Link 2 and Link 2C models.
