Apple Partners with Google for Siri AI Powerhouse

In a significant collaboration, Apple has decided to employ Google's Gemini models to energize the latest iteration of Siri and other generative AI functionalities. This development was initially disclosed by CNBC and was subsequently corroborated by both technology giants through an extensive joint announcement. A key excerpt is: 'Apple concluded that Google’s AI capabilities provide the optimal groundwork for powering Apple Foundation Models. Despite this, Apple Intelligence remains operative on Apple devices and within Apple's Private Cloud Infrastructure, ensuring the continuation of its top-tier privacy practices.'

Earlier in June, discussions suggested that Apple was evaluating potential partnerships with OpenAI and Anthropic to enhance Siri. At present, Siri can utilize ChatGPT for various inquiries under Apple Intelligence's umbrella. However, two months later, Google rose as a prominent candidate. According to another report, Apple might develop its updated Siri leveraging a tailored version of Gemini, with an estimated payment to Google reaching $1 billion annually. Yet, specific financial terms remain undisclosed.

Additionally, it’s noteworthy that current iPhone models have unmediated access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, although the duration for this integration is unclear.
