Baldur’s Gate 3: No Arrival on Switch 2 Just Yet

For those anticipating the arrival of Baldur's Gate 3 on Nintendo's second-generation Switch, the wait might be longer than expected. During a recent discussion on Reddit, CEO of Larian Studios, Swen Vicke, expressed the team's interest in bringing the game to the platform. However, he noted, 'the decision wasn’t ours to make.'

While the situation remains vague, Vicke’s words suggest that the absence of a port might largely depend on the choices of either Nintendo or Wizards of the Coast, who hold the intellectual property rights for the Dungeons and Dragons universe in which Baldur's Gate 3 resides. Speculation is rife regarding possible tensions between Larian and Wizards of the Coast, which could be a factor.

Current Relationship Dynamics

On a different note, Larian Studios' technical director, Bert van Semmertier, shared in another Reddit interaction that Divinity: Original Sin 2 has successfully launched on the Switch 2. He voiced the studio's appreciation for the console and conveyed that Switch 2 will be considered for future projects within the Divinity series.

What Lies Ahead?

The possibility remains for Wizards of the Coast to engage another developing team to eventually produce a port. Nonetheless, no concrete plans have been disclosed to date. Reflecting on Larian Studios' strategic direction, the company clarified in a prior statement that there are no intentions to create additional content updates, expansions, or sequels for Baldur's Gate 3.
