Minnesota Woman Succumbs to Shark Attack Injuries in U.S. Virgin Islands

A tragic incident claimed the life of a 56-year-old Minnesota resident, Arlene Lillis, who was fatally wounded in a shark attack while visiting the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Multiple emergency calls were made around 4:30 p.m. regarding a suspected shark attack on a woman swimming at Dorsch Beach located in St. Croix. The local authorities informed the public shortly thereafter.

Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders found that the woman had lost an arm due to the attack.

Initial fears about a second potential victim were dismissed after a thorough search by St. Croix Rescue unearthed no additional casualties.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed that Arlene Lillis succumbed to her injuries following the attack.

Virgin Islands Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. extended sympathies to the victim's friends and family, commending both the bystanders and first responders who endeavored to save her life.

The exact species of shark responsible for the attack remains unconfirmed. The waters of the U.S. Virgin Islands are inhabited by various sharks, including Caribbean reef, hammerhead, lemon, blacktip, nurse, and tiger sharks.

Authorities have launched an investigation into this tragic incident.

This incident follows another tragic shark attack that resulted in the death of 55-year-old Erica Fox in Monterey Bay last month. Coroner reports confirmed that she died from injuries inflicted by a shark.
