These Smart Glasses from CES Left Me Astonished, Surpassing All Others I've Tried

The Memomind series, newly introduced by XGIMI, a brand typically recognized for its projectors, marks its venture into AI smart glasses. This collection features three distinct models: Memo One, Memo Air, and Memo Air Display.

Memo One: The Highlight Model

The standout product, the Memo One AI Glasses, seamlessly integrates advanced technology. These glasses incorporate displays within each lens using waveguide prisms, offering an expansive and clear viewing experience indoors.

They come equipped with built-in speakers and microphones, enabling interaction with an AI assistant that utilizes a hybrid operating system. This system dynamically selects optimal AI models, including options like OpenAI, Azure, and Qwen, for various functions. This mirrors Rokid's strategy with their Style glasses, employing Azure for language translation and ChatGPT for additional AI functionalities.

What struck me about using the Memo One was its light and comfortable fit for all-day wear. Its functionalities remind me of the Even Realities G1, enabling tasks such as translation, note-taking, reminders, and navigation, all with ease. The companion app is intuitive, and integration with Google Maps is reportedly underway, further enhancing its utility.

The experience starts as soon as you put them on, thanks to a customizable dashboard displayed in the lens. It allows for adding notes, setting reminders, and viewing the date and time in various designs. Simply tilt your head to activate this feature. During my trial, both the translation functionality and AI search performed adequately, despite occasional lags due to slow internet connectivity.

Offered in three different frame designs and six colors, these glasses promise a full day's use on a single battery charge, supplemented by a portable charging case, although not showcased during my session.

Alternative Models Worth Considering

Beyond the Memo One, XGIMI presents two additional models in the Memomind series. For those prioritizing weight, the Memo Air Display glasses, remarkably light at 28.9 grams, resemble standard eyewear but include a singular lens display coupled with AI capabilities. Conversely, the Memo Air foregoes integrated lens displays for audio features alone, albeit with slightly more heft.

My brief encounter with the XGIMI Memo One glasses was thoroughly enjoyable, suggesting a promising future for this genre of tech. Their simplified design that omits cameras yet incorporates displays makes them both practical and appealing for daily wear.

XGIMI plans to initiate pre-orders for the Memo One model shortly after the Mobile World Congress in March. Pricing is set at $599, with additional costs for prescription lenses yet to be specified.
