Amazon Unveils Enhanced Dash Cart for Whole Foods
Amazon is set to introduce an updated version of its innovative shopping cart across multiple Whole Foods outlets nationwide before year-end. This announcement, made on Wednesday, revealed a host of improvements in the new Dash Cart.
The redesigned cart boasts a more effective item scanner conveniently placed beside its display screen. It also includes an NFC feature facilitating payments with just a tap of your smartphone or credit card.
Design Improvements
Previously, the Dash Cart had scanners positioned beneath and in front of the handle, making them less visible to users. Further, payment options were limited to the credit card linked to your Amazon account only.
The revised cart brings with it a new weighing scale located near the handle. According to Amazon, it synergizes with onboard cameras, weight-detecting sensors, and advanced machine learning algorithms to ensure each item's price is precise.
Capacity and Technology Advancements
The latest Dash Cart ditches the bulky sensors facing inward, offering a 40% increase in capacity and 25% reduction in weight—making it more user-friendly.
On the cart’s display, a digital map of the store provides guidance, similar to other cart systems. By syncing with an Alexa-generated shopping list, customers can monitor their expenses as they add products. Utilizing integrated sensors and computer vision, the cart can automatically adjust totals as items are removed.
Streamlined Checkout Experience
Shoppers using the Dash Cart can bypass traditional checkout queues by leaving through a designated lane, making the shopping experience more seamless.
Amazon's innovative Dash Cart will debut at three Whole Foods sites situated in McKinney, Texas; Reston, Virginia; and Westford, Massachusetts, in addition to two Amazon Fresh outlets.
