Charming Robot Pets Introduced by Japanese Startup Ludens AI at CES 2026
These Robotics Are Designed to Be Lovable Companions
At CES 2026, robots are generating much excitement. While many companies focus on developing humanoid machines for tasks, there's a surge in companion robots designed simply to be endearing and offer friendship.
Meet Cocomo: Your New Adorable Robot Pet
Ludens AI, a Japanese startup, unveiled two irresistibly cute robotic companions at CES. Introducing Cocomo: an independent robot pet that tails its human around the home, responding to both voice and touch. Similar to an egg with fuzz, the model shown at CES sported an orange outfit complete with ears, invoking a teddy bear-like appearance. Initially moving on wheels, Cocomo also features small legs if you wish to carry it and cradle it more easily.
Cocoo’s surface is engineered to approximate the warmth of human skin, maintaining around 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the company, when enjoying close interactions like hugs, it might heat up slightly to 102 degrees. While expressive, Cocomo communicates not with words but through soothing hums and other delightful sounds.
Fostering a Bond Over Time
Though the bustling atmosphere limited demonstration opportunities, Ludens emphasizes Cocomo’s ability to gradually form emotional connections with its owner. The robot learns from casual gestures, mimicking, and gentle prompts your preferences — whether that’s sharing in laughter, offering comfort, or creating small surprises.
Details on the market price and release schedule for Cocomo remain undisclosed. However, interested parties can sign up on a waitlist to receive updates as the company prepares for a future crowdfunding initiative.
Presenting Inu: A Desktop Companion
Additionally, Ludens displayed another delightful creation known as Inu, a 'desktop alien pupu.' Unlike Cocomo, Inu is stationary, designed to remain on your desk, providing companionship during work hours. It can also engage with its owner through auditory and kinetic interactions, featuring a small, responsive tail and a single eye capable of 'blinking.'
Plans are underway to launch a crowdfunding campaign for Inu later this year.
