Launching at CES 2026, Withings' latest innovation, the Body Scan 2, is reshaping the future of personal health technology. Priced around $599.95, this device is sharply focused on enhancing both heart and metabolic wellness.

Featuring a groundbreaking design, the scale includes eight electrodes directly on the platform plus four more housed in a retractable handle. This builds on the original Body Scan model but adds superior precision by incorporating data from the upper body, rather than relying solely on the feet, as most smart scales do.

What sets the Body Scan 2 apart is its ability to track a wide array of health indicators. Beyond just capturing weight and heart rate data, the scale offers a comprehensive 'longevity analysis' that reviews more than 60 biomarkers. These include heart performance, the risk of high blood pressure, arterial health, cellular function, and blood sugar management.

Insightful Daily Health Monitoring

Antoine Joussain, the head of product management at Withings, emphasizes their vision of using daily scale measurements to gather meaningful biometric data. Given the complex data, users receive a simplified Health Trajectory score that projects their expected years of good health.

This approach is not entirely novel. In recent years, companies like Whoop and Oura have offered similar health spans and aging assessments through advanced biometric tracking. However, what's unique about Withings' method is the noninvasive nature of its technology.

The Body Scan 2 achieves metabolic health insights by employing bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) and foot sweat analysis—innovative steps that negate the need for more invasive blood tests. These metrics serve as early health signals rather than diagnostic conclusions, according to Joussain.

A User-Friendly Health Gadget

Many individuals already own bathroom scales, making this an optimal tool for regular health monitoring. Joussain acknowledges the emotional challenges associated with scales; for this reason, Withings is piloting features like replacing numerical readings with motivating emoji, all recorded within the app.

The ultimate goal, Joussain explains, is to shift the perception of scales from traditional weight measurement tools to holistic health stations that offer a broader view of well-being.

Regulatory Challenges and Ambitions

FDA approval is required for the device's blood pressure warnings and atrial fibrillation alerts. Although Withings has encountered regulatory hurdles in the past, they remain hopeful for smoother pathways through new certification strategies that don’t compromise scientific rigour.

Anticipating its release in the second quarter of 2026, the Body Scan 2 will meet GDPR and HIPAA compliance standards and include ISO privacy certifications to ensure user protection and data security.
