Introducing the Unique Lockin V7 Max: A Vein-Scanning Smart Lock with Video Doorbell and Wireless Charging
Adopting a smart lock often comes with many benefits, yet one major drawback is the inconvenience of a battery running out suddenly. Lockin now offers a solution to that issue with their innovative V7 Max, which harnesses the power of wireless optical charging. The company claims the lock employs 'eye-friendly optical output' to deliver fast power without waste, effectively covering up to a four-meter radius.
How It Functions
According to Lockin, the V7 Max smart lock charges its lithium battery wirelessly via a device called AuraCharge. This transmitter connects to a standard power outlet and is positioned within a four-meter range of the smart lock inside your home. You can place the AuraCharge on a flat surface or attach it to a wall. Even if the transmitter fails for some reason, the lock can continue to operate for several hours. Though notable, remember that typical smart locks usually have batteries that last for months.
Sleek Design and Advanced Features
The brainchild of Hartmut Esslinger, a former chief designer at Apple, the V7 Max diverges from typical smart locks with its stylish design featuring biometric authentication options such as finger vein, palm vein, and 3D facial recognition. With a shape akin to an elegantly crafted door handle rather than the boxy designs with keypads we commonly see, this smart lock also boasts a built-in video doorbell and touchscreen panels both inside and out.
The lock is compatible with the Matter standard, meaning it can integrate with Google, Apple, Amazon, and Samsung smart home ecosystems. Its two external cameras, combined with an AI known as LockinAI, are designed to do various tasks from identifying and recording package deliveries to monitoring children and elderly family members. It can even automatically generate highlight clips of special family events. While a camera facing inward seems necessary for some AI features, no such details are provided thus far.
Expanding the Wireless Charging Lineup
Alongside the V7 Max, Lockin is launching another model with similar wireless charging abilities called the Veno Pro Wireless, an enhanced version of its existing deadbolt smart lock. The V7 Max represents one of the pioneering efforts in wireless charging for smart locks, following earlier models that use an infrared laser to maintain battery life. However, how Lockin's AuraCharge compares to the Wi-Charge system by Alfred remains to be seen.
The V7 Max will soon be available for preorder, with a launch anticipated early this year. Pricing details are yet unreleased.
