Using AI in Tech Sales: My Strategy and Need for Secrecy
I began integrating AI technology into my daily routine around 2022, coinciding with the debut of ChatGPT. It was a groundbreaking experience that transformed both my personal and professional activities.
In the realm of tech sales, my role demands crafting impactful cold outreach messages. ChatGPT became an indispensable tool for drafting compelling communication that resonates with high-level executives.
As a coach and father, my use of AI extended beyond work. It streamlined tasks like sending timely updates to parents, organizing events, and compiling game statistics — tasks that previously consumed days now accomplished in mere minutes.
My routine now includes varied AI tools: Claude for professional communication, Perplexity for intensive research, and Gemini for creating images. They've also been instrumental in personal education, from learning to install home appliances to helping my child with grade school math.
At work, I've been granted access to powerful sales tools that offer swift insights into potential clients. Platforms like Salesforce Sales Navigator precisely identify prospects, enhancing the effectiveness of my outreach efforts.
AI hasn't directly sealed deals for me — nurturing customer relationships remains my own effort — but it has significantly expanded my client pipeline, allowing for wider reach with personalized and data-driven communication.
Guarding My AI Insights
While many might use similar technological tools, the art lies in how one synthesizes information and formulates prompts. Through extensive experimentation, I've crafted a unique methodology.
I aim to evaluate the effectiveness of my strategies before sharing them broadly, as they could offer me a distinct competitive edge. Learning and mastering AI is time-intensive, and in such a competitive landscape, knowledge is power.
Though I'm open to aiding peers who seek guidance, certain strategies remain closely held. I might share insights with trusted associates or those from whom I can gain knowledge, but I’m selective.
The sales environment is fiercely competitive, and while AI is a topic of company discussions, many are wary of divulging how it gives them an upper hand.
Balancing Transparency with Strategy
Whenever questioned about my AI usage, my answer is an emphatic 'yes.' However, only a select few are privy to the detailed conversations about leveraging these tools.
