Gmail Address Update Feature on the Horizon
Google's Support Page in Hindi Signals Feature Rollout
A forthcoming feature from Google will soon allow users to swap their current Gmail address for a new one, as indicated by a support page available in Hindi. Your existing email address will remain active as an alias and all your data will remain intact.
According to the translated support page, this ability to modify your Google account email is on a gradual rollout. The feature was initially spotted on a Google Pixel forum via Telegram and covered by 9to5Google.
Current Status and Expectation
Though the English support page still restricts changes to @gmail.com addresses, Google has allowed non-gmail.com address changes before. As of now, no official statement from Google confirms this update.
Engadget has sought confirmation from Google. Further updates will follow if a response is received.
Anticipating the Feature Release
Upon a widespread release of the feature, users will find it in their account settings. To attempt a change, log into your Google account and navigate to Manage your Google account, then select Personal info > Google Account email. If the option is not available, it means you might need to be patient for wider availability.
