Finding Your Lost AirPods

Misplacing your AirPods is a common occurrence. They’re compact, have a tendency to disappear into the nooks of couches, slip into bags, or get lost in jacket pockets. Fortunately, Apple’s Find My app simplifies the process of locating your lost AirPods, whether it's the case or a single earbud that's gone missing. Your iPhone can assist by showing the last point of connection, playing sounds to help locate them, or providing on-screen instructions.

Utilizing Find My to Track AirPods

If your AirPods are linked to an Apple device registered to your Apple ID, they automatically appear within the Find My app, provided Bluetooth is enabled during regular usage. This facilitates location updates.

Access the Find My app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and navigate to the Devices tab. If your AirPods are online or were recently connected, their location is displayed on a map. If offline, the app suggests the last detected location, aiding in narrowing down the search.

Often, this information is enough to spark your memory, whether it's indicating your gym, a friend's home, or the bus stop from where they slipped out. If the spot is familiar, start your search there and refresh the app upon arrival. This may help further if your devices reconnect.

If Find My indicates proximity to your AirPods but they’re still unseen, you can activate a sound to help locate them. By pressing the Play Sound button, the AirPods emit a rising chirp, aiding the search in spots like under sofas, inside bags, or behind furniture.

Remember that your AirPods need enough battery to make noise, and the case itself cannot unless it's one of the supporting models like AirPods 4 (ANC) or the Pro versions. Should no sound be produced, consider refreshing the app or reconsidering the last known location.

Locating Individual AirPods

AirPods can occasionally become separated, and losing just one earbud is as usual as misplacing the entire set. One standout feature of the Find My app is the ability to track each earbud independently.

Within the Find My app, opt to search for the Left or Right earbud depending on which one is missing. The map will adjust to display its location.

If the earbud supports nearby location tracking, use the Find Nearby feature for guidance. If this isn't available, as long as the earbud has sufficient battery, you can still use the Play Sound option.

Your lost earbud might initially show as Offline, yet its last position can be enough to help track it down. Once you're within Bluetooth range again, it might update to Online, allowing you to employ sound-playing aids.

If you suspect it's still at home, try refreshing Find My while gradually moving room to room. The earbud may sync as you near.

Recovering a Lost AirPods Case

Locating the AirPods case can be more challenging since only newer models offer sound or Precision Finding. If your case is compatible with Find My, you’ll find options akin to tracking the earbuds. Otherwise, it only shows the last connected site.

If your earbuds are stored in the case but the case lacks Find My support, playing a sound might not be possible until you open it or remove an earbud.
