Birdfy’s Innovative Approach to Capturing Hummingbird Slow Motion

As the CES 2026 event approaches, the spotlight turns to Birdfy's latest innovations: two smart bird feeders equipped with advanced cameras designed to capture visiting birds in dynamic slow motion. Key among them is the Birdfy Hum Bloom, which uses a nectar bulb to attract hummingbirds, simulating the flowers they instinctively gravitate towards. Meanwhile, the Feeder Vista offers a 360-degree immersive experience with its unique feeding system that ensures uninhibited views.

Slated for a second-quarter 2026 release, pricing details for these feeders remain under wraps. The Hum Bloom is built on an 8MP camera platform that records hummingbirds in stunning 4K at 20 frames per second. To achieve captivating slow-motion clips at 120fps, the resolution adjusts to 1080P—a necessary compromise given that hummingbirds flap their wings rapidly at speeds between 50 to 80 times per second.

Innovative Feeder Features

The Hum Bloom is meticulously designed to suspend from branches or similar supports. It incorporates a hydraulic mechanism to ensure a steady nectar flow to the bulb positioned perfectly for camera capture, framing hovering hummingbirds excellently. Additionally, it features sensors that monitor nectar levels, alerting the Birdy app when a refill is needed. An ant moat is ingeniously placed above to fend off nectar-seeking insects.

The Feeder Vista distinguishes itself with a pair of dual-facing cameras capable of capturing 14MP panoramic stills and recording 6K 360-degree videos at 30fps. Lowering the resolution to 2K allows for slow-motion video capability at up to 120fps. Users can also switch views to focus on a single wide-angle lens if desired.

Smart Features and Artificial Intelligence

Unlike traditional feeders that rely on gravity for seed dispensation, the Feeder Vista uses an air-powered piston to push seeds upwards from a concealed storage space below. This keeps the container out of sight, enhancing 360-degree video footage. The Birdfy app further allows users to adjust feeding speed and portion sizes remotely.

Both feeders boast the capability to identify bird species using Birdfy’s cutting-edge OrniSense AI. While the Hum Bloom detects hummingbirds in flight through motion sensors, the Feeder Vista employs advanced weight sensors to ensure only actual feeding birds trigger recordings—ignoring extraneous movements from people, animals, or vehicles. This weight measurement aids the AI in estimating bird size, refining identification accuracy.
