How Breaking My iPhone Upgrade Rule Turned Out to Be Rewarding
I have always been someone who doesn't chase after the latest mobile technologies. While many are fascinated by the cutting-edge gadgets, I prefer the more basic options.
A Notable Step-Up in iPhone Display
Unlike my regular practice of skipping yearly upgrades, I decided to switch to the iPhone 17, despite its close resemblance to the iPhone 16. The biggest draw was its advanced display.
Apple introduced its ProMotion technology to the standard iPhone model for the first time, setting the iPhone 17 apart with a 6.3-inch always-on screen, promising an impressive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Although initially skeptical, this improvement brought a fluidity to the device's animations and a much-enhanced user experience.
The slight augmentation in screen size from 6.1 to 6.3 inches turned out to be surprisingly helpful, making reading easier without adding undue bulk to the phone.
Surprising Camera Features
Though I don't require high-end camera specifications, the new features in iPhone 17 were appealing. The Center Stage front camera, capable of automatic framing and adjustment during video calls and selfies, was a pleasant surprise.
Additionally, video recording has been enhanced, offering dual capture capability—capturing from both rear and front cameras. Although I might not use these often, they are fantastic to have without the extra cost of the Pro models.
Battery Life Enhancement
For an iPhone user who spends considerable time on the phone, the substantial upgrade in battery life was greatly appreciated. With a 3,629mAh capacity allowing up to 30 hours of video playback, the iPhone 17 outstrips its predecessors in battery longevity.
Practical Buying Advice
While some are drawn to Apple's premium offerings, often for features they might never utilize, the iPhone 17 stands as a significant update worth considering. It offers advanced capabilities while remaining more affordable than the Pro series, making it a smart choice for those who value function without unnecessary expenditure.
