LG Installs Microsoft Copilot on TVs, Allows Removal

After feedback from users, LG is responding by providing an option to delete the Microsoft Copilot shortcut on their new TV models. Many users were frustrated upon finding out this icon couldn't initially be removed.

A post on the subreddit r/mildlyinfuriating showed the Microsoft Copilot icon among other apps on an LG TV, with no way to delete it. One user shared that the new software update forcibly added this feature, which triggered over 36,000 reactions as others shared similar grievances over unwanted AI features.

User Feedback Prompts Change

Spokesperson Chris De Maria from LG confirmed the company is committed to user preferences. They plan to enable the deletion of unwanted icons, ensuring users remain in control.

Both LG and Samsung had added similar features earlier in the year. However, LG users observed the Microsoft Copilot icon appearing more frequently after a recent system update incorporating webOS.

Company Clarification

De Maria emphasized that the icon simply serves as a shortcut to the Microsoft Copilot online service. It's accessed via the TV's web browser and isn't a built-in app. Microphone functions linked to the service activate only upon user permission.

Even though LG hasn't provided a precise timeline for implementing this change, they are addressing the customer concerns that surfaced.

To provide further transparency, LG clarified that introducing the shortcut intends to enhance user convenience without deeply embedding additional functionalities in their TV units.
