Sony and Tencent Resolve Dispute Over Alleged Horizon Clone
Game 'Light of Motiram' Removed Following Agreement
At the start of this year, Sony initiated legal action against Tencent, accusing them of copying their game Horizon Zero Dawn with their release, Light of Motiram. Described as a 'slavish imitation,' the case saw developments earlier this month when Tencent consented to cease the promotion and testing of this game publicly. According to court papers acquired by The Verge, the companies have now settled the matter confidentially, leading to the dismissal of the lawsuit. Additionally, Light of Motiram has vanished from both Steam and Epic's digital storefronts.
A representative from Tencent confirmed to The Verge that both Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and Tencent are content with reaching a private settlement and will not provide further public statements.
The origins of the lawsuit date back to July 2025, when Sony alleged that Tencent's game borrowed elements not only from Horizon Zero Dawn but also from other subsidiaries like Horizon Forbidden West and Lego Horizon Adventures. These alleged similarities spanned the game's post-apocalyptic environment featuring humans and machines collectively, character designs, and even promotional material style—observations that were evident to Engadget upon the game's initial reveal.
