Meta Integrates AI at the Core of Operations with Google and OpenAI's Assistance

In a strategic move towards an 'AI-first' work environment, Meta is significantly broadening the range of AI tools available to its employees by incorporating resources from competitors like Google and OpenAI, as reported by Business Insider.

The social media titan is urging staff to weave AI tools into almost all facets of their work, according to internal documents and communications observed by Business Insider.

The objective to embed AI into every aspect of their operations is a priority, as Meta's Chief Information Officer, Atish Banerjea, detailed to employees in a June communication. This plan involves utilizing Meta's proprietary models, named 'Llama,' alongside other firms' products.

In a November update, a Meta engineer revealed that all staff members now have access to Google's Gemini 3 Pro and OpenAI's ChatGPT-5. This announcement was accompanied by a list of AI tools available to Meta employees, each with specific applications.

A representative from Meta corroborated the revamped lineup of AI tools, reiterating the company's dedication to enhancing daily work processes through AI usage.

Incorporating Competitor AI Tools

This past June marked a pivotal opening for Meta as it began to adopt AI solutions from competing companies.

Among the new tools is Devmate, an internal coding assistant utilizing Anthropic's Claude technology, as previously highlighted by Business Insider. Also included are Google's Gemini and NotebookLM Pro, which are being used across Meta to enhance productivity and impact, according to Banerjea's communication in June.

Meta has channeled substantial investments into developing its own consumer-focused AI models, offering employees access to an internal assistant, Metamate, which is powered by Llama models.

In a summer agreement with the startup Midjourney, Meta integrated an AI-image generator into its suite, making it accessible to employees in October for both concept and production tasks to expedite design and prototyping, according to an internal note viewed by Business Insider.

Google tools are not the only external resources Meta is utilizing. This past summer, the company transitioned its internal productivity applications to Google Workspace, including tools like Chat, Gmail, Docs, and Drive, as part of an effort to utilize AI features more effectively according to a June memo.

In engineering, Meta has broadened access to advanced coding systems by incorporating Google's Gemini 3 Pro and exploring new interactions with OpenAI's Codex CLI, alongside Google's Gemini CLI. According to Reality Labs executive Maher Saba, their focus is directed towards achieving outcomes like boosting efficiency and accelerating project timelines, as mentioned in a memo from November.

To foster AI experimentation and adoption, Meta has introduced gamified elements, as noted by Business Insider. Earlier this year, an internal initiative called 'Level Up' was launched, incentivizing AI usage through reward badges. Moreover, leadership has connected performance metrics with AI-driven outcomes, highlighting that validated AI contributions could influence performance evaluations starting 2026.
