Alphabet's Stock Boom Elevates Cofounders Above All but Elon Musk
Following an impressive rise, Google's cofounders have ascended the ranks of global wealth, trailing only behind Elon Musk. Their fortunes have ballooned by $185 billion collectively this year.
The surge in Alphabet's stock by more than 50% since August has fueled newfound optimism regarding its initiatives in artificial intelligence.
Having surpassed other tech titans like Jeff Bezos of Amazon and Larry Ellison of Oracle, Alphabet's Larry Page and Sergey Brin now hold the second and third spots on the global billionaire list. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Page has amassed $265 billion and Brin $246 billion, as of the latest figures.
From the dawn of January, Page and Brin's holdings have increased by $97 billion and $88 billion, respectively, to a collective $185 billion surge.
This ultimately places them behind only Elon Musk, who leads with $638 billion in wealth. Significantly trailing behind are Jensen Huang of Nvidia, with a $46 billion gain, and Larry Ellison, with $39 billion.
Altogether, the duo's net worth sums up to $511 billion—surpassing several illustrious S&P 500 companies like Exxon Mobil, Bank of America, and Netflix. Despite this, Musk's lead remains at $127 billion.
Remarkable Financial Transformation
In a drastic shift from late July standings, where their net worth fell short of $175 billion and yielded year-to-date earnings below $5 billion each, by November, the scenario drastically evolved.
Within a short span, both Page and Brin each added more than $85 billion to their net worth, attributed primarily to Alphabet's shares soaring over 50%, moving from $200 to surpass the $300 mark.
Their stakes are amplified by their approximately 6% holdings in Alphabet—a tech behemoth valued at $3.7 trillion. This umbrella company governs prominent brands like Google, YouTube, Waymo, and DeepMind.
Key Factors Driving High Valuations
Alphabet's ascendancy can be largely attributed to the commendation of Google's latest AI innovation, Gemini 3, reigniting investor confidence that Alphabet could outshine entities like OpenAI in AI dominance.
Alongside AI, Alphabet's reduced antitrust challenges, strategic partnerships such as the one with Anthropic, and the widespread AI market enthusiasm propelling their stock surge have further enriched major stakeholders, including Page and Brin.
Despite the prevalent success, there is growing speculation about the sustainability of this AI-led financial boom. Observers continue to debate whether this remarkable growth reflects a profound market shift or an impending economic bubble.
