White House Initiates 2-Year 'Tech Force' to Employ Approximately 1,000 Roles with Salaries Up to $195,000

For young tech professionals aspiring to transition into private industry, a new governmental pathway is now available.

The Trump administration has rolled out the United States Tech Force, a program lasting two years, that will provide federal government employment with future options to move into the private sector.

In collaboration with at least 28 prominent tech firms, ranging from Apple to Uber, this initiative partners with companies such as Amazon Web Services, Dell, Microsoft, and more.

Led by the Office of Personnel Management alongside other agencies, the Tech Force is designed for individuals at the beginning of their careers. Participants will engage in modernization tasks and AI implementations across various governmental sites.

Initially seeking to recruit about 1,000 individuals, Tech Force is actively looking for expertise in software development, AI, cybersecurity, data analysis, and technical project management.

Applicants are required to complete an application process that includes a technical evaluation and interviews with agency executives, along with a background verification. The initial scrutiny of resumes and technical evaluations will be overseen by OPM before distinct agencies take over the hiring process, as mentioned by OPM Director Scott Kupor.

Participating tech firms are expected to contribute by offering training resources and mentorship roles, and they may consider hiring Tech Force participants after the program concludes.

However, as of now, these companies have not promised any specific employment commitments.

Kupor acknowledged, "It would be impractical to expect companies to employ individuals without prior knowledge of their profiles," yet he expressed a desire for the program to result in substantial hiring from their private-sector partners.

Expected compensation for these roles ranges from $130,000 to $195,000 annually. There are no strict requirements related to academic qualifications or professional experience for these positions, which will be available for application on USA Jobs. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit applications promptly, with an aim to complete hiring by March's end.

While most roles are based in Washington, DC, remote work may be an option depending on the specific agency or position. These roles are bipartisan and independent from the US Digital Service.

Aside from primarily targeting early-career professionals, the program is also in search of seasoned engineering managers from within the private sector. Companies can put forward their employees for consideration, typically expecting them to take a sabbatical or leave their current positions to join this two-year stint.

Kupor clarified, "These participants will be full-time federal employees throughout their tenure, adhering to all ethical standards," while adding that corporations will formulate their own reintegration policies, but he anticipates a smooth transition back to their former roles.

Plans for future iterations of the program, with a potential for expansion, have been announced by Kupor, who expressed aspirations for its annual continuation.
