Disney's Legal Action Provokes Google's Response
In response to a legal threat, Google is taking stringent measures against AI-generated videos that feature Disney characters on YouTube. Reports from Variety and Deadline indicate that the company has taken down numerous videos starring characters like Deadpool, Moana, and Mickey Mouse, along with figures from Star Wars and other Disney franchises. This action follows accusations from Disney of extensive copyright violations.
Content Removal Details
The cease-and-desist notification that Disney forwarded to Google not only criticized the company's allowance of these videos on its platform but also highlighted the issue of using Disney’s copyrighted content to train AI models like Veo and Nano Banana, which is a core concern of Disney's legal complaint.
Ongoing Legal Battles and New Collaborations
Disney's legal pursuits are not limited to Google. It has previously targeted and is currently litigating against AI companies such as Character.AI, Hailuo, and Midjourney for similar copyright infringements related to AI. Nevertheless, this hasn't stopped Disney from embracing the AI evolution. Recently, they announced a partnership with OpenAI, aiming to integrate Disney characters into platforms like Sora and ChatGPT, as well as utilizing AI-generated content for Disney+.
