Samsung Wallet to Introduce Digital Car Keys for Select Porsche Models
Samsung has announced that owners of the Porsche Macan and the forthcoming electric version of the Porsche Cayenne will soon be able to unlock and start their vehicles using their Galaxy smartphones. This innovation is part of Samsung Wallet's Digital Key feature, enabling users to manage their Porsche remotely via advanced UWB (Ultra Wideband) or NFC (Near Field Communication) technologies.
Expansion Timelines and Device Compatibility
The roll-out of the Digital Key feature will commence in Europe this December, with plans for a broader, global implementation in sync with the release schedule of new Porsche automobiles. Samsung has clarified that this capability will be functional on a range of its devices, including models as far back as the Galaxy S20, Note 20, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2, as well as the Galaxy Flip 5G. Most recent Samsung smartphones are also compatible.
Integrating Smart Technology with Automotive Security
Like similar offerings from Apple and Google, Samsung's Digital Key allows Porsche owners to secure their cars innovatively by using their Galaxy phones to lock, unlock, and start their vehicles. In case a phone is misplaced or stolen, users can deactivate or erase the Digital Key remotely for added security.
Expanding Partnerships and Functionalities
Earlier, in February 2025, Samsung extended support for its Digital Key to select models from Volvo and Polestar. Originally launched in 2021, this feature exemplifies just one of the many ways Samsung foresees consumers engaging with the Samsung Wallet application. Beyond digital car keys, Samsung Wallet is equipped to handle credit and debit card transactions and allows for effortless financial exchanges with a simple tap.
