Google Photos Enhances Video Editing to Compete with Capcut

The video editing capabilities within Google Photos are receiving significant updates, now featuring options to include text, music, and several templates for highlight reels.

Google Photos' application for both Android and iOS devices is undergoing a major update to its video editing functionalities. This includes a completely redesigned editor that offers users custom options for text overlays and music addition to individual videos.

Enhanced Highlight Reels

Highlight reels, which previously compiled selected photos and videos into basic videos, have received a noteworthy upgrade. Previously limited in style and editing options, these reels now offer more creative freedom. The introduction of themed templates means that your photos and clips will automatically sync with built-in music and text overlays. It's important to note that these new features, such as update versions of highlight reels and custom text overlays, are initially available solely on Android.

New Editing Interface

Google has revamped the editing tool interface. It now includes a universal timeline that allows trimming and rearranging of clips, offering a user experience similar to apps like TikTok's Capcut and Instagram. Additionally, the interface update includes simplified options for incorporating custom text and music, making it easier to explore and choose from the music library.

The enhanced video editor and music library are being gradually rolled out across both Android and iOS platforms. Some users may already have access to these new functionalities.
