Introducing FixBot: Your Personal Repair Assistant

iFixit has launched a new application packed with a unique feature — a chatbot dedicated to troubleshooting and repair guidance.

Available for both Android and iOS, this application enables users to monitor device health, access repair guides and manuals for over 125,000 devices, and locate necessary tools for around-the-house repairs.

Named FixBot, this chatbot simplifies the repair process. Whether you need to fix a cracked iPhone screen or change a tire on your old car, you just need to describe your problem or use your phone's camera for visual recognition. FixBot can identify the model of a malfunctioning device and guide you through the steps of repairing it.

Combining AI models from leading tech sectors, FixBot focuses on repair-related needs, pulling data from iFixit’s extensive repair archive, and providing links to obtain required spare parts or tools.

According to iFixit's CEO, Kylie Wiens, the app could revolutionize personal device repair, addressing the diverse problems faced by its millions of users each month.

Following some past challenges with earlier apps — notably with Apple — the new iteration enhances functionality while maintaining user-friendly access to device health checks. For example, the app provides detailed battery health analytics directly relevant to your phone’s performance.

The chatbot strictly adheres to repair topics, providing practical advice while steering clear of unrelated inquiries, ensuring it remains a specialized tool for device troubleshooting.

Limitations of the FixBot include strict adherence to repair topics, meaning it won't engage in non-technical discussions, nor will it assist in any unlawful actions, maintaining focus only on legitimate repair advice.
