Reflect on the period when netbooks gained popularity during the early 2000s; these devices, though revolutionary at first, left much to be desired. They were underwhelmingly powered and so compact that using them proved challenging, especially with their cramped keyboards.

Taking on the Challenge

Initially, the device was equipped with Windows 11, which traditionally demands a lengthy setup before commencing evaluations. As a personal preference, Linux is often installed due to its familiarity and rapid setup time, usually under five minutes.

Converting to Linux

Before replacing Windows 11, it was worth testing the preinstalled OS for comparison. Unsurprisingly, the laptop was not stellar with Windows, performing sluggishly. After a few weeks, a switch to Ultramarine Linux was made, a decision I don't regret.

Linux Performance

From the outset, Linux operated smoothly. Every component worked excellently—the display, networking, sound, and trackpad, all without issue. There was a minor challenge of removing an encrypted partition, quickly solved using KDE Plasma’s partition manager.

Hardware Impressions

The Storm 10's keyboard pleasantly surprised me. Despite the laptop's small size, the keyboard isn't awkward or cramped, allowing for seamless typing. Writing on this device was comfortable, with the keys giving a robust feel.

The display, while not on par with Apple’s offerings, performs adequately. KDE Plasma’s interface looks appealing, and I enhanced its appearance with a MacOS-inspired theme.

Evaluation of Performance

I conducted my routine evaluation by installing an AI model, demonstrating impressive speed in processing despite the device’s size. The Storm 10 executed the task admirably, surpassing the performance of some desktop computers.

Audio and Visual Experience

Sound quality is functional but lacks richness, though it's sufficiently loud with the option for headphone use enhancing the experience. For video, the Storm 10 effectively played numerous online clips, even handling 4K content respectably.

Battery Life Insights

The battery, while not designed for day-long use, managed standard tasks well, although intensive applications reduce its life. The 3800mAh unit has an estimated lifespan of eight hours per charge, varying with usage.
