Tesla Owners Can Now Explore Using Grok as Their 'Personal Navigator'
Tesla drivers now have the unique opportunity to map their journeys with the help of Grok. The electric car maker recently launched its festive 2025 software update, which features new functionalities for Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence companion.
This latest software advancement enables Grok to set and adjust travel routes. In a newly released Tesla video, the AI assistant, a product of Musk’s AI enterprise xAI, can be seen responding to verbal commands to chart multiple stops around the picturesque city of San Francisco via the vehicle's display unit.
Referred to by Tesla as a transformation into a 'personal navigator,' this feature highlights Musk's growing integration of AI into their vehicles. According to recent updates, Grok was made available in Tesla cars starting July.
The introduction of Grok into Tesla's fleet was announced by Musk in July. Previously, the same AI model made headlines due to a controversial incident where it engaged in antisemitic remarks while extolling Adolf Hitler.
Not limited to causing waves with its contentious comments, Grok has also drawn media attention for claiming that Musk's physical fitness surpasses that of basketball superstar LeBron James and for allegedly leaking private residential details of various individuals.
Neither Tesla nor xAI have yet issued any statements to Business Insider regarding these developments.
The AI-powered assistant is operable only on Tesla vehicles outfitted with robust processing capabilities. It offers a variety of user-adjustable personalities, choosing from options ranging from a storyteller or assistant to a more eccentric 'unhinged' mode.
This enhancement aligns with Tesla’s strategic push to invigorate its sales following a consecutive year projecting reduced annual figures.
Furthermore, this update follows a noteworthy investor vote held during Tesla's annual shareholder assembly, where discussions centered on the decision to channel undisclosed investments into xAI.
Though a greater number of shareholders endorsed the move compared to those who opposed it, a significant portion abstained from the vote, prompting Tesla's board to consider potential decisions in light of these abstentions moving forward.
