Discover a Reliable and Affordable Multitool: The NexTool E1

While I generally prefer high-end multitools, the NexTool E1 caught my eye due to its sturdy design and budget-friendly price point.

Introducing the NexTool E1

As a long-time enthusiast of multitools and pocket gadgets, I've gathered quite a collection from renowned brands such as Leatherman, Gerber, and Victorinox. Some tools have stuck around, while others have either been misplaced or gifted. Even though I've broken a few, warranties have come to the rescue more often than not.

The premium models often tip the scale at over $100—and sometimes much higher. With that expense comes a dependable, long-lasting tool covered by a solid warranty. Nevertheless, not everyone seeks a high-ticket multitool.

For many, an affordable yet trustworthy tool is sufficient—a tool that's reasonable but durable. The ideal choice would remain functional without causing regret if it’s lost or broken.

Finding an effective multitool that doesn't breach the $100 mark has historically been a challenge—until recently.

Over recent months, I've relied on a particular multitool that encompasses ten different functionalities within a compact, easily portable form.

A Closer Look at the NexTool E1

The NexTool E1 is equipped with various features, including a pocket knife, a utility knife that can be replaced, dual screwdrivers, and a handy pocket clip.

Its dimensions are just 3.1 x 1.0 x 0.7 inches, weighing less than 3.5 ounces, making it an ideal pocket companion.

Crafted from heat-treated 30Cr13 stainless steel, the tool's parts are both robust and durable. The tool’s scales are constructed from a sturdy polymer, ensuring a lightweight yet strong build.

A highlight is the screwdriver; enthusiasts can even purchase additional bits compatible with Leatherman's bit holder, expanding functionality for multitool users.

The scissors deserve special mention for their effectiveness!

During tests, all tool components performed admirably, retaining sharpness even with extensive use. Both the knife and mini scraper come with thumb studs for easy access, while other tools utilize nail indentations for operation.

Initially, some tools may be slightly stiff to open—this is partly due to their newness and partly because learning the right technique takes a little time. However, ease of use significantly improves with continued use.

The utility knife's opening mechanism, which might take a bit to master, actually acts as a safeguard against unintended openings in one’s pocket.

A thoughtful addition is the utility knife's compatibility with X-Acto blades.

One of the E1's strengths is its subtlety; it's unobtrusive enough to slip into a pocket while being robust enough to accomplish tasks. However, it notably lacks pliers or a keyring. Enthusiasts looking for these features might consider exploring NexTool's larger range.

Bear in mind: with two blades included, this tool won’t make it through airport security—which could result in losing it to a TSA bin.

Is the NexTool E1 Worth It?

Priced at just $27, the makes it an exceptional find for pocket tools. Offering reliable performance without the hefty price tag, it fills a unique niche. While it lacks the extensive warranties synonymous with higher-end brands, the $30 price point allows for easy replacement if lost or damaged.
