Enhanced Battery Life in Sony's Latest DualSense Controller

Though it may appear visually similar to its predecessor, Sony's newest edition of the PS5 DualSense controller reportedly offers a substantial boost in battery longevity. This claim comes courtesy of Polish modder Modyfikator89, who noted that the DualSense V2, or model CFI-ZCT2W, achieved an impressive over-15-hour period of uninterrupted use in testing.

According to Modyfikator89, the extended gameplay duration is a result of eliminating certain components, such as the secondary microphone, and refining the electronic elements. Supporting this observation, YouTuber Austin Evans highlighted the lack of a rear microphone in a detailed teardown video released in October. This video also identified updates like a new plastic structure surrounding the battery and alterations to the battery connector.

Performance Comparison

For context, the prior DualSense version typically provided about 10 hours of playtime per charge, whereas the DualSense Edge variant only manages approximately 5 to 6 hours. The upgraded 15-hour capacity of the new DualSense allows users to completely play through single-player campaigns such as Astro Bot without needing to recharge.

Availability and Packaging

The updated DualSense model is becoming part of bundles with the latest versions of the PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim. These consoles introduce other modifications, including reduced internal storage and a lighter PS5 Slim design. The controller will also be available independently—expected to be the model for forthcoming special editions such as the Genshin Impact limited edition. Buyers are advised to verify the model details on the packaging to ensure they acquire the latest version.
